All our standard rain defence and ventilation louvre models sold in Europe are independently tested to EN 13030:2001 ‘Ventilation for buildings – Terminals – Performance testing of louvres subjected to simulated rain’.
As a member of the Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA), a globally recognised, not-for-profit organisation known for its testing and certification programmes within the air systems industry, we also participate in AMCA’s voluntary Certified Ratings Program.
In addition, we participate in AMCA’s voluntary Certified Ratings Program (CRP). Under this scheme, a wide selection of our louvre models undergo rigorous testing in AMCA-accredited laboratories. Once certified, these products are subject to ongoing audits, guaranteeing that the performance you specify is the performance you receive – year after year.

WATER PENETRATION
The ability of the louvre to prevent wind-driven rain ingress. The test simulates 13 m/s winds and 75 mm rain per hour, and measures the louvre’s performance at core velocities from 0 m/s to 3.5 m/s.

Water penetration effectiveness is measured for each of eight face velocities between 0 m/s and 3.5 m/s. Louvre penetration class should always be expressed in the context of the face velocity it was measured at.

Discharge/entry loss coefficient is expressed as a single class, based on an average result over at least five air velocities. Class 1 indicates the least and Class 4 the most resistance to airflow. The higher the value, the lower the energy usage.
The test results enable specifiers to directly compare the performance of different rain defence louvre models.
A single louvre design classification should be accompanied by the limiting core velocity, for example Class A 2 up to 2 m/s.
NOTE: Whilst simplifying the selection process, the test results reflect the performance of a one-off test panel, 1 m2 in size. The test does not measure or give consideration to the way the water is collected and drained from larger louvre installations.
AMCA 500-L
AMCA certification offers reassurance beyond initial testing. Through the Certified Ratings Program (CRP), selected louvre models are independently tested and regularly audited, giving confidence that specified performance is maintained throughout the product’s lifecycle.
The standard covers five testing protocols:
- Pressure drop
- Water penetration
- Wind-driven rain
- Airflow leakage
- Wind-driven sand
Our louvres are tested for airflow performance, water penetration and/or wind-driven rain ratings.
The wind-driven rain performance test simulates two sets of conditions:
- 13 m/s winds and 75 mm rain per hour
- 22.3 m/s winds and 203 mm rain per hour
and measures louvre performance at core velocities from 0.0 m/s to 5.0 m/s.
